Developmental construction 2003-

Realdania Byg has invested in several development properties since 2003. A development construction must have an experimental character and embody quite exceptional qualities, whether in terms of architecture, materials, construction method, location or other special features, before Realdania will commit to the project.

For Realdania Byg to embark on experimental building, the design must test the boundaries of construction and contribute to building up new knowledge within architecture in the broadest sense. 'The snake' at Bispebjerg Bakke, designed by Bjørn Nørgaard, is a good example of a development construction which has shaken up traditional thinking and habits.

Sustainability in the widest sense of the word is a unifying factor in all Realdania Byg's projects, and several projects have in common the main aim of testing the possibilities in the area of climate and energy.

Behind many of the projects are well-known Danish and foreign architects, drawing offices and artists, such as OMA and Rem Koolhaas, Tony Fretton, Arkitema, Bjørn Nørgaard, etc. The collection will continue to grow.
