About Realdania By & Byg

Realdania By & Byg’s mission is to improve the quality of life through philanthropic investment and active ownership of properties and areas for urban development. We are a subsidiary of the philanthropic association Realdania and our activities help to realize Realdania’s mission to promote the quality of life in the built environment.

The Maternal House of Oluf Bager

We own and preserve a collection of historic buildings that represent the development of Danish building heritage over 500 years. The historic buildings are rented to private individuals or businesses. We also develop innovative and experimental buildings, and we are involved in long-term urban development projects in partnership with municipalities in order to contribute to the development and quality of Danish towns.

Our aim is to inspire home-owners, municipalities and private developers to sustainable development of the built environment. At the same time, our philanthropic investments generate revenue that we can use for further investments.

Through our website, films and books, our Open House events and the Realdania By & Byg Club, we share the many stories our properties and urban development projects have to tell.
Within urban development, Realdania By & Byg also disseminates information and solutions for Danish municipalities and other professionals working in the field.

We operate in Denmark and we only make philanthropic investments in properties and sites located in Denmark. However, we are happy to share our experiences as a philanthropic investor and our focus on sustainable development with international professionals working with preservation of built heritage, property development and urban development.

We are currently involved in the international network Iconic Houses and we are a member of the European Foundation Centre.

How we work

We make philanthropic investments in properties and sites located in Denmark. Situations where the commercial market or public authorities cannot, or will not, solve a task, may be suitable philanthropic projects for us.
